What is an AD Code ?
- AD Code (Authorised Dealer Code) is a 14-digit numerical code issued by a bank that is authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to deal in foreign exchange. It is mandatory for exporters in India to register their AD Code with the customs department through the ICEGATE portal before exporting goods from any port or airport.
- Purpose of AD Code Registration
- The AD Code helps the Customs department track the export transactions and ensure that foreign exchange earnings are received in India through legal banking channels. Without AD Code registration, exporters cannot generate Shipping Bills — a critical document required to clear goods for export.
- Key Features of AD Code :
- Unique to the Exporter’s Bank Branch : Each bank branch has a specific 14-digit AD Code.
- Mandatory for Export Clearance : Required to generate Shipping Bills on ICEGATE.
- Monitors Foreign Exchange: Ensures the repatriation of export proceeds through an authorized bank.
- Linked to IEC: Tied to the Importer Exporter Code (IEC) and registered port.
- One-Time Registration per Port: Must be registered separately at each port of export.
